MEET GABRIELLE
Gabrielle took on her current plot in 2024. It was a bare piece of land, covered only in weeds and overgrown hedges.
Having originally taken on the allotment to grow vegetables, she quickly realised that the space was a haven, an escape from the craziness of day to day life and a place to relax, unwind, and de-stress.
She quickly fell in love with, not only the space, but the community she found on her allotment site.
She took on her second plot there in 2025 and is currently making it her own.
MEET STEVE
Steve took ownership of his first plot on a soggy June day in 2019. It had previously been worked with a mix of raised beds, some scruffy looking raspberries and a clump of rhubarb. Old shed bases and lots of gravel made up the rest.
It had been over 20 years since he had a garden so to obtain some growing space was an exciting challenge albeit with no actual plan of what he was going to grow or do with it. Pretty much like any new allotmenteer.
Having grown up with Grandparents who actively cultivated their own fruit and veg alongside a full greenhouse, gardening has always been there in some shape or form.
To earn beer money many years ago as a teenager he looked after 4 different gardens at weekends and evenings.
It was no surprise then a year later that plot 2 adjacent to the first was taken, this was in a much worse state but a better plan was in place.
Now after numerous changes the plot has a greenhouse and is dedicated to no dig with bark chip paths and no raised beds. Perennial fruit, veg and flowers adorn the plot which is best described always as work in progress.
